Visit England have announced that up to £40m is available in their new 'Discover Britain' fund and are seeking applications from businesses of all sizes.
The fund is designed to bring international visitors to world class destinations, something that Janette Jenkinson, Shadow Portfolio for the Economy on SLDC, thinks is perfect for our area.
"The aim of this fund is to drive inbound visits and spend whilst supporting our local tourism market through world class, stand-out, bookable tourism products," she said.
"From the tip of the Furness peninsula to the heart of the Lake District I urge businesses of all sizes to seriously considering bidding."
Windermere Councillor Ben Berry is bullish about our local Tourism Sector and said that there is no doubt that if businesses here put in bids that we would all benefit.
"Cumbria is at the heart of the UK's tourism offer and we are a major destination for International visitors but we need to continue to work hard to attract them.
This fund will allow small and large businesses to deliver truly exceptional experiences that will benefit the entire Country."
Ben says he will also be working with the Council to see if they should put a bid in for the entire area.
