The water safety course, 'Swim Safe' is coming back to the Lake District from today.
For the next fortnight, the ASA - the national governing body for swimming, and the RNLI are working together with staff at Brockhole on the shore of Windermere.
The open-water safety initiative is specifically for children aged 7 to 14, and is now in its third year.
Jon Glenn, Head of Learn to Swim at the ASA, said: “Swimming in open water is great fun but it is essential that young people are aware of the potential dangers and know how to stay safe.
“Since Swim Safe began in 2013 we have seen the programme grow in popularity so that this year, it will be delivered in six locations. This is fantastic as it will give even more young people the opportunity to take part in our free sessions and experience safe open water swimming.”
Pip Hare, RNLI Coastal Safety Manager, said: “We are delighted to be working with the ASA again this summer to bring Swim Safe to the Lake District.
“Combining the water safety knowledge of RNLI lifeguards with the expertise of ASA swimming teachers allows us to provide children with the skills and knowledge they need to keep safe in open water.
“We hope that as many children as possible will take part in some Swim Safe fun at Lake Windermere over the summer holidays.”
Swim Safe will be taking place at Brockhole Visitor Centre, Lake Windermere, from the 18th of July to the 7th of August. The free 40-minute sessions will run daily between 10am and 3pm except Wednesdays.
