Cumbria's Police and Crime Commissioner, Richard Rhodes, is seeking to recruit Independent Members to sit on Police Misconduct Panels.

This will be in collaboration with other Police and Crime Commissioners in the North West.

Police Misconduct Panels preside over serious misconduct cases in what is an important aspect of the disciplinary rules that govern the police.

Independent Members are required to help misconduct panels in determining a fair and evidence based judgment about a particular police officer's conduct and agreeing an appropriate sanction.

The appointments aim to reassure the community that misconduct matters are properly investigated and proceedings properly adjudicated.

The Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside Police & Crime Commissioners are seeking to recruit about 20 independent members who may each be required to attend and effectively participate in 8 - 10 hearings per year.

Cumbria's Police and Crime Commissioner Richard Rhodes said: "Independent Members of Police Misconduct panels play an important part in the misconduct process, ensuring openness, fairness and transparency in such proceedings.

"I would particularly welcome applications from suitably skilled residents of Cumbria, to help achieve an even spread of geographical representation within the north-west regional pool of members."

Applications are sought from individuals who can demonstrate integrity and independence of mind, commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, analysis, sound judgement and an objective approach to issues presented. Candidates must be over 18 years old and living or working within Cumbria. A daily rate and travel expenses will be paid for attendance at meetings.

We are proud to be committed to equal opportunities and welcome suitable applications. Anyone who is interested can get more information from the Police and Crime Commissioner's website at www.cumbria-pcc.gov.uk/recruitment.  The closing date for applications is Wednesday 27 January 2016.
