A multi-agency coordination group that was set up yesterday to combat the consequences of the weather conditions has now stood down.

Flood alert levels have been downgraded across Cumbria.

A small number of properties were affected again by flooding yesterday, in Appleby, Warcop, Glenridding and Kendal.

The county's roads and bridges continue to face some disruption though.

Further rainfall is forecast over the Christmas period though, with a yellow warning in place on Christmas Day evening, and Boxing Day.

Superintendent Justin Bibby, of Cumbria Constabulary and the chair of the multi-agency coordination group, said: “The weather has caused less disruption than first predicted but we still have a number of areas suffering from localised flooding and our thoughts are with those that have once again been affected. The Environment Agency have advised that the risk of severe flooding has dropped significantly.

"Partner agencies have worked together over the past 24 hours to coordinate precautionary and responsive actions. The efforts of the multi-agency coordination group demonstrated that our approach and plans are well tested for such events.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their patience throughout the past 24 hours and remind them of our advice that, while the risk of flooding has been downgraded, a number of the county's roads are still of particular concern due to standing surface water so please do not ignore road or bridge closures."
