Cumbria Police has confirmed that Kendal now has two reception centres open for members of the public to access for advice, safety and shelter from flooding.

A statement read: "The reception shelters are based at the Town Hall and the leisure centre in Kendal. The Constabulary wants to remind the public that if you decide to self-evacuate, please inform your family and friends where you are going, and that you are safe, to avoid concerned relatives contacting emergency services.

"Following on from a previous statement, the force wants to urge the public again not to travel in and around Kendal unless absolute necessary as many of the roads are blocked or impassable. The Brettargh Holt roundabout is now closed on the A591 towards Kendal.

"South Lakeland still have supplies of sand bags at our depots at Ulverston and Ecclerigg, but access is difficult because of road conditions.

"The remaining supplies from the Kendal depot at Canal Head have been moved to higher ground at Greenside, Kendal, close to Kendal Fell waste transfer station.  The area around Canal Head is affected by flooding."

***UPDATE: The Greenside site no longer has any sandbags***
