Elves and fairy folk are hard at work planning a wonderful Christmas season at National Trust places across Cumbria and the Lake District.
There's a string of events happening over the festive period for locals to get involved in.
Below is a comprehensive list and explanation of those events.
At Acorn Bank, local choirs – the Abbey Singers, Wordsworth Singers and Carlisle Taize – will be performing Christmas favourites in the festively decorated drawing room on 5th,6th, and 20th December.
The room itself has recently seen its wooden paneling restored and painted in period 1930s colours, when Acorn Bank was gifted to the Trust by former owner Dorothy Una Radcliffe.
Outside, Acorn Bank’s resident fairies have been hard at work decorating the doors of their tiny houses in the woodlands for children to find.
Meanwhile, at Aira Force, you can enjoy a steamer cruise on weekends and a brisk walk to the waterfall, followed by a warming snack in the new café throughout November and December.
Over at Allan Bank, open fires and hot punch will create a relaxing atmosphere, with the chance to take part in festive craft sessions; a Christmas
decorations’ workshop on 12th December or listen to live music on each Saturday in December.
A warm Winter Glow will welcome you at Sizergh, together with a special, sparkling Christmas tree sourced from the Sizergh estate.
Father Christmas will be in his grotto and welcoming children on weekends 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th December.
At Wray Castle, the Ranger team will be busy installing the huge Christmas tree that fills the two-storey hallway, and for the first time Wray’s library
will be decorated for the festive season.
Fell Foot is a place to escape the crowds and enjoy a peaceful winter walk, followed by some quiet Christmas shopping.
There is also the Saturday morning Park Run – a chance to burn off some calories before the festive season.
If you’re in Keswick, chill out with a stroll down to the lake shore.
For a pre-Christmas night out, enjoy a festive film at Sticklebarn in the Langdale Valley every Friday and Saturday in the run up to Christmas.
Looking ahead to New Year, head to Sticklebarn for a relaxed evening at the pub with wood-fired pizzas and sparklers on the terrace at midnight
to welcome in 2016.
You can camp at the nearby National Trust campsite and enjoy a refreshing, revitalising winter holiday.
The festive season is the perfect opportunity to recharge your batteries – so wrap up warm and head out on walks and trails across the Lake District.
