Severe flood warnings are no longer in force on the River Kent through Kendal.
The Environment Agency says not as much rain fell as feared overnight.
Kendal Town Hall has been acting as a reception centre for those who chose to evacuate their homes last night.
Dozens of lesser flood warnings and flood alerts remain in place for Cumbria and North Lancashire though.
Low lying land and roads have been badly affected - we've had reports of flooding in Borrowdale, Brigsteer, Burneside, Grasmere, Great Langdale, Kendal, Keswick, Seathwaite and Threlkeld.
Further afield, Egremont and Carlisle have been badly affected.

Meanwhile, Cumbria Police is urging drivers to stay at home and only take to the roads if it's "absolutely necessary".
Even motorways and A-roads are subject to treacherous driving conditions due to standing water, heavy rain and wind.

The downpours are set to continue well into Sunday night according to the Met Office, which has an amber weather alert in place for parts of the Northwest.
It's estimated a month's worth of rain will have fallen over the weekend.
There's also a yellow weather warning for more wet condition on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
