The University of Cumbria and the National Trust have signed an agreement to cement their future working relationship.
In the first collaboration of its kind in the country, Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Strike and the National Trust’s Director for the North Region, Harry Bowell signed the official document at the Ambleside campus.
Among several other projects, it means the uni' will work with the trust as members of the Lake District National Park Partnership to support the bid for World Heritage Site status.
Professor Strike said: “We see the signing of this agreement as an opportunity to further enhance learning within the natural environment and cultural landscapes.
“Both the university and the National Trust are ideally placed to engage with local communities to face future challenges and help secure the excellent reputation and continued prosperity of the Lake District.”
Harry Bowell, National Trust Director for the North Region commented: “This is an opportunity for both organisations to draw from our strengths and together, provide a solid foundation for learning and partnership working in the Lake District. In its current form, The University of Cumbria is one of Britain's newest universities, but has a history of educating professionals spanning over 150 years.
“The National Trust aims to support the university with its deep-rooted expertise in nature, conservation and cultural settings and inspire students and local communities alike through thought leadership and engagement.”
