The extended and refurbished Cartmel Primary School officially opens later this week.

A celebratory event's being held this Friday, following the completion of the Cumbria County Council-funded project.

The work - which cost £200,000 included a brand new classroom, and was completed by local contractor South Cumbria Construction.

Local MP Tim Farron will officially open the new classroom.

Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet Member for Property, Councillor David Southward, said: “The county council has delivered a number of major improvements to schools and communities throughout Cumbria and the completion of the recent work at Cartmel Primary School is fantastic.

“The building looks wonderful and I’m sure the pupils and staff will feel the benefits immediately.”

Headteacher Rachel Battersby added: “The additional classroom and improvements to our school will make a huge difference for our pupils. Thanks to the investment from the county council we’ve got room to grow and this means we can continue to offer the highest quality educational provision for the local community long into the future.”
