Golf clubs across Cumbria are backing a new initiative to make it easier for women and girls to get into Golf.
Coaching from the county’s PGA professionals is being offered as part of a range of new ideas from clubs to attract new members.
The number of 'Get into Golf' centres across Cumbria has grown from six last year, to more than 20.
Awareness is being raised by Active Cumbria, on behalf of the Cumbria Golf Partnership.
Becky Underwood, Development Office for Active Cumbria said: “If you have ever thought of trying the game, now is the time to make the most of this great offer.
“If you have been put off by the stereotyped image of the sport, this is an ideal chance to find out what really goes on a golf clubs and how easy it is to start playing with the right advice.
“Golf is a sport that can help girls and ladies enjoy a healthier lifestyle alongside an active social life with like-minded people of all ages.
“Cumbrian golf clubs and ranges are amazing places, every one is different and offers something unique, be it a specific course, an extensive Pro Shop, or a fantastic bar and club house.
“But one thing they all have in common is a warm welcome to people who might like to learn the game, or just come along to see what is there.
“Often they are along a quiet road on the edge of the town, but they all make the most of Cumbria’s spectacular landscape. I would encourage anyone to go along and see what’s there.
“The Get into golf course is an ideal way to learn the game with a qualified professional and spring is a great time to get outdoors.”
Get into golf is a national campaign to inspire adults to take up the game and is run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships, supported by Sport England and National Lottery funding.
