Cumbria's Alcohol and Drugs Advisory Service has been awarded £435,000 in lottery funding.
It works with addicts and their families whether they're battling dependency, or recovering from it.
Services will be expanded in Barrow and Kendal; the money will also be used on programmes to prevent substance abuse in young people.
Meanwhile, a group that aims reduce loneliness amongst older people living in Allerdale has received £175,000.
