The Morecambe Bay NHS Trust says it's on target to meet all the recommendations of last year's Kirkup Report.

The public inquiry into the deaths of mothers and babies at Furness General Hospital suggested a series of changes.

UHMBT's published a monthly update on its progress highlighting the recent 'Big Conversation' in which pre and post-natal service users were consulted on what could be done better.

And just yesterday, plans were confirmed for a new £11million maternity unit for Furness General Hospital.

David Walker, Medical Director, UHMBT, said: “We are progressing well, and are pleased that more of our project groups have now met their deadlines.. This has been achieved thank to the hard work of staff across the Trust and the members of the public that have been supporting them to help us make sure that any improvements or changes that are made really do make a difference to those that use our services.

“If you haven’t yet got involved in the work we are doing to improve maternity services across the Trust, there are still ways you can get involved and have your say, including coming along to our third Maternity Matters in Morecambe Bay event which will take place this time in Kendal on Friday 20 May. The last two events in Barrow and Lancaster have been fantastic as they’ve allowed us to really listen to the experiences local families have when using our maternity services, and ask for their advice and ideas on what we could do differently in the future. More information on the event will be shared soon.

“We will continue to keep everyone updated on our progress in meeting the recommendations.”
