Local businesses are being asked if they'd support having free wi-fi hotspots in Windermere and Bowness.
Consultants from South Lakeland Council have approached Windermere Town Council about the idea.
The Windermere and Bowness Chamber of Trade wants to know what business managers think of the idea, and are asking for comments before 5pm this Friday.
A Chamber spokesman says there's a "good case" for free wi-fi, given the area's high visitor numbers.
