Energy giant Centrica says a project to unlock new gas reserves off the Cumbrian coast will secure around 200 jobs.
Pressure in the North Morecambe field has dropped since the rig first opened 30 years ago.
Now, the power firm says it'll spend £16million to divert high pressure gas from its other operation off Millom to flush out more at the North Morecambe site.
It estimated that'll mean production will continue there for another 15 years.
