Sandbags handed out by SLDC to residents of flood-affected areas of Kendal are being collected and returned to local depots this week.
The council will start to remove used sandbags as part of the council’s ongoing flooding clean-up tomorrow.
Used sandbags start to deteriorate after being saturated, so anyone who needs new ones if there is a risk of further flooding can collect them from SLDC Canal Head, Kendal, Ulverston, or Ecclerigg depots.
A spokesman for South Lakeland District Council said: “Due to the exceptional circumstances of the recent floods, on this occasion we are providing collection of used sandbags as an additional service to help residents get rid of flood damaged waste.
“Our teams are still out collecting other flood damaged household waste from homes across the district to support the flooding clean-up and the collection of sandbags is part of that assistance.
“Residents do not need to call in to request the removal of the sandbags, our teams will be out and about in flood-affected areas and will collect them from outside your property."
