Services run by the Alzheimer’s Society in Kendal and Keswick are being disrupted as a result of flooding.

Due to the problems, the charity has cancelled the following groups:

Monday (14 and 21 December) - Singing for the Brain, Quaker Meeting House, Keswick
Wednesday (9 December), 1pm, Singing for the Brain, Kendal Rugby Club

Tara Edwards - the charity’s services manager for North and West Cumbria, said: “Although our venue in Carlisle is not directly affected, it is just off Warwick Road where some of the worst flooding has been.

“We don’t want people travelling unnecessarily and being caught in the disruption in that area of the city.”

The Quaker Meeting House in Keswick where Singing for the Brain is held was still under 2ft of water at the time of writing.

“We have decided to cancel our Monday Keswick sessions until the New Year, although we understand there is optimism about the Meeting House soon being up and running.

“The session runs every Monday 1.30-3pm and we hope to restart it on Monday 11 January, if necessary in an alternative venue.

“Other services provided by the Alzheimer’s Society including the help provided by our dementia support workers are continuing as normal,” said Tara.

Debi Marsden, Alzheimer’s Society Operations support Manager for Cumbria, said: “Services in our area are also are mostly running as normal apart from at the Kendal Singing for the Brain group, which is  temporary closed whist damage is being assessed.”

Alzheimer’s Society’s offers support and advice on its helpline on 0300 222 1122, while local the Kendal offices number is 01539 742631 for Kendal.
