Allerdale Borough Council’s doorstep recycling collection service is being expanded in Keswick, so that more residents can recycle glass, cans and plastic at home.

From Wednesday the 9th of December, an extra 60 homes will join the purple bag scheme. Bags and information leaflets are being delivered to the relevant addresses this week.

The new areas being included are St Johns Street, Derwent Street, High Street and the section of Borrowdale Road closest to the town centre.

This year, the Council has increased its doorstep collections to include more than 96% of residential properties in the borough.

The Council says it is is reviewing all the streets and rural homes which currently are not included in the purple bag scheme to see if more properties can be added to the refuse collectors’ rounds. In the meantime, residents are still able to use individual towns’ and villages’ recycling sites, including those at supermarkets, as well as the Cumbria County Council household waste sites.
