Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria, Richard Rhodes, has agreed to provide funding for Cumbria Crimestoppers.
The grant of £4,500 for this and the next financial year is to help contribute to their operating costs.
Speaking of this, Richard Rhodes said: “I took the decision to provide some funding for Cumbria Crimestoppers as they provide an invaluable tool in helping to tackle crime in Cumbria, through enabling people to provide information anonymously.
“They carry out a valuable role in our communities in highlighting crime, conducting crime-prevention work and sharing information with the police and other partners, which are all activities that fully support the objectives of the Police and Crime plan.”
Gary Murray,Crimestoppers Regional Manager said: “We are delighted to receive this support from the Police and Crime Commissioner which will enable us to campaign more effectively throughout Cumbria. Each year many hundreds of people from Cumbria contact Crimestoppers anomomously and this leads to numerous arrests, drugs and property being seized and safer communities.
"We would urge everyone to continue to play their part in the fight against crime.”
