Dangerous Driver Pleads Guilty After Causing Crash Near Kendal

A mototrist who caused a crash near Kendal which left an off-duty police detective and his son with serious injuries has been sentenced by a judge.

Matthias Kuhn, 55, was travelling on the wrong side of the A684 between Kendal and Sedbergh when his Isuzu Trooper ploughed into a Ford Mondeo in darkness.

Mondeo driver Nigel Harling and his 12-year-old son were both injured in the collision and taken to the Lancaster Royal Infirmary.

Mr. Harling, a Penrith-based detective constable, needed plastic reconstructive surgery on his injured hand and suffered a head wound.

His son's injuries included a broken arm and the youngster was detained in hospital for two days. 

Kuhn appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (Monday 30th November)  and pleaded guilty to one charge of dangerous driving on 24th April.

Kuhn was fined £2,000 by Judge Peter Hughes QC and banned from driving for a year.

He must also pay £1,000 court costs.
