A charity which helps people with visual impairments across Furness and parts of the South Lakes has been given £2,000 towards its new children’s service.

The Barrow-based Vision Support Centre's ‘Younger Generations’ project works with youngsters up to the age of 19.

The cash - from the Barrow Community Trust, will be used to support children and their families as they adapt to life with sight loss.

The charity’s Chief Executive, Carl Hodge, said: "We’re very grateful to the Barrow Community Trust. Two thousand pounds is a fantastic amount and the money will enable us to provide a variety of entertaining events for the children involved in the project.”

The money will be presented to Briony Coglan, the Younger Generations Project Co-ordinator and some of the children from the project.

Anne Hayes, a member of the Barrow Community Trust, said: "It’s not often that we are able to donate this amount to one charity but on this occasion I am delighted that we are able to help this very worthwhile children’s project.”

The Vision Support Centre is part of Barrow Blind Society and offers home visits, practical and emotional support, benefits and housing advice and social groups.
