Cumbria County Council's begun its flu vaccination programme for this winter.
Children aged 2 to 4 years old and youngsters in school years 1 and 2 are eligible for the nasal spray.
'At risk' adults can get it for free too - they include pregnant women; the over-65s; and carers.
Meanwhile, the NHS 'Stay Well This Winter' campaign has also begun. You can find their advice below:
- Make sure you get your flu jab if eligible.
- Keep yourself warm - heat your home to least 18 degrees C or (65F) if you can.
- If you start to feel unwell, even if it’s just a cough or a cold, then get help from your pharmacist quickly before it gets more serious.
- Make sure you get your prescription medicines before pharmacies close on Christmas Eve.
- Always take your prescribed medicines as directed.
- Look out for other people who may need a bit of extra help over winter.
Cllr Ian Stewart, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet member for Public Health, said: “Winter can be particularly serious for young children, pregnant women, people aged 65 or older and those with long-term health conditions.
“Don’t put off getting the flu vaccination. If you’re eligible get it now. It’s free because you need it.
“Speak to your GP or midwife about the free flu jab."
Colin Cox, Cumbria County Council’s Director of Public Health, said: “Our advice is simple – get your child vaccinated every year, for their health as well as yours. Contact your GP now.
“For most children, the vaccine will be given as a nasal spray. It’s quick and painless and will mean your child is less likely to become ill if they come into contact with the flu virus.”
