Kendal residents are trying to 'crowdfund' a new play park.
People in Oxenholme have already raised £31,000 toward their play area project, thanks to contributions from SLDC and Kendal Town Council.
They hope residents and local businesses will chip in where they can to top that up to the required £65,000.
There'll be an open day at the existing play area where people can see the new design this Saturday afternoon.
The crowdfunding website can be found by clicking here.
OPAD chair and mum-of-three Emma Turner, said: “The play area is a vital for young people in the village.
“Because of Oxenholme’s relative isolation, it is the only park that is easily accessible and it is also the only real community space that we have where people of all ages can get together.
“It is important that the new park offers youngsters a challenging and engaging space to play and something for all ages.
“The large ‘space net’ in the park design was included with older children in mind, to give them somewhere to hang out and climb and it would be great if the community pulled together to make this happen by supporting our crowdfunding appeal.’’
Councillor Brenda Gray, SLDC ward councillor for Oxenholme and Natland, supports the project and urges others to get involved. Councillor Gray said: “This is an important project that will give more fun and challenge to children up to about 11 years old.
“There is a need in the future to follow on with updating the kickabout area and also think about the teenagers who have no facilities.
“It would be wonderful if others in the Oxenholme and wider communities would support OPAD and spread the word about the bid for crowdfunding.’’
Kendal Town Councillor, Guy Tirvengadum, said: “The play area at Bolefoot in Oxenholme needs replacing, it is great to see the community getting together to help create a play area which is both exciting and safe for the young people in Oxenholme to play and hang out.”
