Broadband Roll Out "Too Slow", Say Locals

A local MP is raising concern over how long it's taking BT to roll out superfast broadband across remaining parts of Cumbria.

Tim Farron has met with bosses of Connecting Cumbria - the joint project between BT and the county council to discuss what can be done to speed up the project.

The meeting followed complaints from residents and businesses who still have connections described as "very slow".

20% of the county still hasn't been connected to the network.

Cumbria is behind its original target of connecting 93% of the county by the end of 2015.

Many constituents have told Tim that they are beginning to feel that they need to take things in their own hands and investigate finding their own solutions rather than wait any longer.

Mr Farron said: “I am pleased that Connecting Cumbria has made such impressive progress in delivering high speed internet connections to the county but there is still quite some way to go and I want Connecting Cumbria to work much harder on investigating how they are going to get to 100% coverage as soon as possible.”
