South Lakes Tourism "Booming", Report Says

A new report hails South Lakeland's economy as "booming", with new figures showing that the numbers of tourists and local business starts ups, are rising.

SLDC's report shows that 16.5 million tourists are now visiting the South Lakes every year - making a new record of 22.5 million tourist days.

The local tourism industry is also bringing in £1 billion in revenue every year.

South Lakeland District Council Portfolio Holder, Giles Archibald said: “These impressive figures show both sides of South Lakeland’s success. We are in an area known globally for its astounding natural beauty and unique vibrant culture, which is attracting huge numbers of visitors from around the world.

“At the same time, we also have a thriving and innovative business environment which is encouraging hundreds of new businesses every year and supports them to become established, grow and prosper.”

The tourism figures were released days after the Cumbria Intelligence Observatory announced that 185 new businesses had opened in the area in the first quarter of this year, further cementing South Lakeland as a great place to do business.
