Kendal Town Council will debate the proposed closure of Kendal Magistrates Court at a meeting next month.
The Ministry of Justice says the court buildings are under-used; and it'll be more efficient to transfer their work to Barrow.
The Town Council's concerned about that, arguing the longer journey times will inconvenience court users.
A consultation's underway - a member of the court service will make a presentation on the plan at Kendal Town Hall on the evening of the 7th of September.
Following that, there'll be a public meeting with Cumbria's Police and Crime Commissioner Richard Rhodes and Chair of the South Cumbria Magistrates' Bench, Jenny Farmer JP, expected to speak.
