Idols nightclub in Kendal has closed.
In a post on the nightspot's Facebook page, management said it was with "immediate effect."
They put it down to "high rates demanded by the council."
Local MP Tim Farron says it's a "real shame"; adding it's a "massive blow" to the night time economy.
Mr. Farron said: “This could a massive blow to the night time economy of the town. The bars and pubs of Kendal, amongst them Idols, help create an estimated £1 million a year for our economy and I pledge I will do all I can to help in the days, weeks and months ahead to support this vital industry.”
SLDC's commented too - the council says it was powerless to help by cutting business rates; but says it'll press the government on the need to support businesses like this.
Peter Thornton, leader of South Lakeland District Council, added: “South Lakeland District Council just collect business rates and don't levy them. We have made the case to government that businesses like these need help and we will keep making that case.”
