A drop-in event's being held later this month, so health bosses can speak to local people about their concerns for the future of Kendal's Mental Health unit.

A decision on whether to temporarily close Kentmere - at Westmorland General Hospital, has been delayed until the end of the summer.

Healthwatch Cumbria wants to hear from local people on Thursday the 30th of June, between 1pm and 7pm at the South Lakes Foyer, in Yard 95 on Stricklandgate.

Senior clinicians from the Trust will be on hand throughout the day to talk to members of the community and their views will be independently recorded by Healthwatch Cumbria who will then present a report to the Trust Board of Directors.

Dr. Andy Brittlebank, Medical Director said: “While we undertake more work to be absolutely certain that we have done everything possible to ensure the quality and safety of the service on the Kentmere site, we are keen to hear from members of the community about their concerns and talk to them about their experiences and the issues we currently have with the environment on the Kentmere site.

"We then intend to hold some more detailed workshops so that community members, staff, and partners can help us shape what services we would put in place if we do need to make a temporary closure.”

David Blacklock, Chief Executive of Healthwatch added: “We are really pleased to have the opportunity to work with people to hear their views and to ensure that members of the community are fully engaged in this process.”
