Bosses of the supermarket chain Sainsbury's have exchanged conditional contracts to open a "Sainsbury’s Local" shop in Windermere.
It will replace the "MyLocal" store on Main Road, and all current employees will be given the opportunity to stay on.
Angharad Lynch, Property Communications Manager, said: "As convenience retailer of the year for the fifth year running, we are committed to playing an active role in the communities in which we operate.
"As well as each of our convenience stores supporting a nominated local charity every year, Sainsbury’s runs a nationwide Active Kids programme that helps invest in sporting equipment for local groups and schools. Since 2005, Cumbria has benefited from more than £280,000."
The news has been welcomed by local councillor Ben Berry.
