A Kendal man's been jailed for two and a half years for his part in a taxi hijack incident.

23 year old James Shaw was one of two men who sped away in the Skoda Octavia in December, leaving its driver stranded.

Shaw was said to have played "a secondary role" in the crime, looking on as an unknown accomplice, wielding a screwdriver.

Carlisle Crown Court today heard he made threats and ordered the driver to give up his car and mobile phone.

It was later found by police abandoned in Windermere.

Shaw, of Longlands View, admitted robbery and was sentenced today.

The court heard he had committed the robbery while subject to a suspended prison sentence, which had been imposed for an assault on his partner in a Kendal park.
