The South Lakes MP has called on the Environment Secretary to speed up payments to farmers who were hit by flooding during winter.
Struggling farmers are still waiting for their money from the Rural Payments Agency more than five months on from Storms Desmond and Eva.
Defra's Liz Truss was in the South Lakes yesterday to warn about the impact of leaving the EU on the sheep industry.
However, Lib Dem leader Tim Farron says it was a missed opportunity to address the concerns of farmers who've applied for government help to repair their land but haven't received any cash yet.
Mr. Farron said: “The administration of the Basic Payment Scheme by the RPA this year has been an utter shambles. Farmers are facing a difficult time due to market conditions as well as the impact of the floods, but the problems have been massively exacerbated by the RPA, which comes under DEFRA.
“The RPA has repeatedly failed to pay farmers on time and has misled them. Commons farmers, of which there are many here in South Lakeland, are bearing the brunt of this failure. Liz Truss must acknowledge the hardship this has caused – farmers need serious action to ensure this is never repeated, not ministerial visits.”
