Pupils at a South Lakes School got an unexpected extra lesson on Monday - when the North West Air Ambulance landed on their playing field during Athletics Club.
The helicopter was called after a woman had fallen nearby, while walking on a pathway to Orrest Head - she's recovering well in hospital.
While medics went to her aid, children from Windermere Preparatory school were taught about the helicopter by its crew after their athletics session on the field came to an early end so the aircraft could land.
Headteacher Mrs Thomas, ended the athletics session early after spotting the helicopter circling above the school, looking for somewhere to land.
She said: “This was obviously very exciting for the children and a great learning experience. It was also fantastic for the pupils to see this kind of teamwork in action.
"Thanks to the commitment and dedication of those called to the incident, the lady who sustained the injuries in the fall is recovering well. The pupils have decided that the next fundraising initiative will be to raise money for this amazing voluntary service.”
