A mental health charity in South Lakeland has been given two government grants - both on the same day.
Growing Well - which is based at Low Sizergh Farm, just outside Kendal, has been given more than £100,000 this year.
The grants are from a fund managed by Social Investment Business, to help the charity to record and report its impact on how it's changing lives.
The second fund is the Cabinet Office’s Local Sustainability Fund, delivered by Big Lottery Fund, to help it operate as efficiently as possible.
Clairelouise Chapman, Organisational Co-ordinator at Growing Well said: “Cabinet Office funding is great recognition of our amazing work, supporting people to recover their skills, confidence and self-worth from destructive mental health illness.
"This funding will help us support more people more effectively. There are over 54000 people currently experiencing mental health problems in Cumbria. The number of people taking their own lives is on the increase.
"Recent flooding across the county has caused high levels of depression and anxiety for many people. Growing Well offers practical, free support for people experiencing mental distress, and it’s important that anyone needing our help knows where to find us.”
Sam Rayner, CEO of Lakeland said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Growing Well in this new and exciting stage of their development. Lakeland has supported the charity for several years, and we are passionate about the links between the way they work with local produce and mental health issues.
"Growing Well is a committed, well managed and effective organisation, and I’m looking forward to us continuing with the Lakeland team working with them.”
