The Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership says its continuing to work closely with its partners to deliver funding to businesses damaged during December's floods as quickly as possible.

Since the start of this month, it's already committed £2.9m from its Flood Recovery Grant Scheme to support 521 local businesses.

In additional, Allerdale and South Lakeland councils have already been given £75,000 each by the partnership to support a programme of upcoming local events and festivals to drum-up more support for businesses both directly - and indirectly affected by the storms.

Graham Haywood, Director of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “We have been working closely with our partners to deliver funding opportunities as quickly as possible to flood damaged businesses – as well as those whose enterprises which have suffered adverse knock on effects.

“For example, the Flood Recovery Grant Scheme is supporting small and medium sized businesses severely affected by the flooding, helping them to recover more quickly, commence trading and remain sustainable. As of 10 March 2016, we have already committed £2.9m to support 521 businesses with their flood recovery.

“Cumbria LEP has also provided Allerdale, Carlisle, Eden and South Lakeland with £75,000 each to support a programme of upcoming local events and festivals in their respective areas.  This additional funding is to boost the Cumbrian economy by increasing visitor numbers and spending in local businesses.”
