Kendal's looking to follow Millom's lead and make sure local people have a big say in healthcare in the town.
Members of the Millom Alliance will make a presentation at the Quaker Meeting House on Stramongate between 6pm and 8pm.
They'll talk about the benefits of an 'Integrated Care Community', which gives residents the chance to design and run health and social services.
Also attending will be public health expert Mike Conefrey, who will join with local GP Dr Richard Russell for the evening.
“An Integrated Care Community (ICC) is a team of patients and public, health and social care professionals & third sector organisations that work together to address the care needs of a community,” said Dr Russell.
“Other communities within the Morecambe Bay area have already held public events. For example in Carnforth volunteers have trained to become health trainers, a community choir has been formed and schools in the area have launched a Let’s Get Moving programme.
“In Millom, the local community joined together to help advertise for GPs which resulted in attracting applications to the area. They have also begun a community volunteer scheme.
“We don’t want to make assumptions – we want people to come along and get involved in the design and running of your local health and social care services.”
Dr Hugh Reeve, Clinical Chair for Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group said: “As we move forward with Better Care Together, our plan for the future of NHS services across the area, integrated care communities will play a vital role in shaping the services for their populations. We therefore want as many people as possible to get involved.”
