The Morecambe Bay NHS Trust is aiming to achieve the gold standard for end-of-life care.
Nurses at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital will try and meet the criteria over the next eight months.
They include meeting a patient's preference when they're nearing the end of their life; and avoiding unnecessary hospitalisation if they want to die at home.
Joy Wharton, Lead Macmillan Palliative Nurse, UHMBT, said: “Our Ward teams are passionate about providing the best possible care for patients and their families. Undertaking the GSF Accreditation programme will help staff deliver a Gold standard of care to patients approaching the end of life, in line with their wishes.”
Sue Smith, Executive Chief Nurse, said: “It is fantastic to see so many of our nursing staff are working towards the Gold Standards Framework for End of Life Care. I look forward to seeing the outcomes in December.”
