A geo-engineering expert will do a talk in Windermere this afternoon on the resilience of Cumbria's roads to further flooding.

Dr. Simon Ferley led the survey of the A591 following its collapse during Storm Desmond in December.

A film he posted to Cumbria County Council's Facebook page explaining why it happened has been viewed more than 10,000 times.

Dr. Ferley will address members of Nurture Lakeland at the Low Wood Bay Hotel to lay out what needs to be done in case of extreme weather in future.

Karen Mitchell, Director of Nurture Lakeland, said: "We invited Dr Ferley to speak because tourism businesses and local inhabitants alike will be interested to hear his take on the resilience of our road infrastructure to flood damage. Extreme weather events like Storm Desmond are becoming more frequent as a consequence of climate change."
