Kendal Police are looking for volunteers to help their work to tackle rural crime, saying cross-border criminals are still "prolific" in the area.
Officers from several forces - including Lancashire, work together four times a year to raise awareness - and to give local people police radios so they can alert officers about any suspicious activity immediately.
PCSO Mandy Colman said: "The intention is to gather intelligence, identify and arrest any offenders, you will assist and have direct contact with the police via radio, take up static observation points in the area you know well.
"You will be trained how to use a radio and be able to pass any suspicious activity direct to all the officers involved.
"If you would like any more information then please contact myself on amanda.coleman@cumbria.police.uk or kyle.bateson@cumbria.police.uk
"Call into Sedbergh Community office and leave your name and number or ring Cumbria Police on 101 and leave a message.
"This is a great chance to work together to combat rural crime."
