Grants worth up to £3,000 are available to groups in Cumbria that come up with ideas to reduce waste.

The County Council says 240,000 tonnes of rubbish was generated by households in Cumbria last year - half of that was recycled, reused or composted.

The authority wants to cut down the amount that's going to landfill though.

Money will be available from the fund for schemes that encourage people to repair, refurbish or swap things; or that educate people and change their behaviour when it comes to recycling.

The deadline for the first batch of project proposals should be received by 19 February 2016. There is more information available online by clicking here.
