It's reported that a third locomotive-hauled passenger train will be provided by Direct Rail Services to support Northern Rail’s trains on the Cumbrian Coast.

The report is from Rail magazine, although there is no date for when the third loco-hauled train will be delivered.

Northern Rail uses the diesel locomotives on Cumbrian Coast trains, as well as to Preston and Lancaster, in a deal that was signed last year to create an extra 2.5 million seats per year.

DRS Class 37 locomotive-hauled coaching stock trains were introduced last May, but there have been several failures, both with the locomotives and with the carriages.

More details are expected to be published in the 793rd edition of RAIL 793, published on February 3rd.
