Tributes have been paid to a Kendal school receptionist, Kathleen Bellas - "a wonderful and caring woman", who died in a crash near Shap yesterday (Tuesday).

51-year old Adam Rybicki, who's from Poland, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, and was due before Furness Magistrates this morning.

The collision on Tuesday involved a lorry and a car on the A6 just before 7am.

The family of 54 year old Kathleen have paid tribute to her, saying: “We have lost a truly wonderful, caring and lovely lady, a very much loved wife to Jeff and Mam to Nicola, Vanessa and Jeffrey.  Kathleen was also dearly loved by her grandchildren, William, Marta and Jude and was also much loved by her Son in law Peli, daughter in law Anna, dad Joe, sisters Jaqueline and Tracey, brother Dougie and all the family.

“Kathleen had many loves.  One of her biggest was going away with her husband Jeff and her family on holiday.  She had just returned from a family holiday in Tenerife which she had enjoyed immensely.  She also was a keen keep fit fan, running regularly, swimming and going to the gym.

“Kathleen also enjoyed a party and frequently went to the pub to watch Manchester United and catching up with her many friends. Kathleen worked at Queen Katherine School in Kendal as a receptionist, a job that she thoroughly enjoyed.

“She will be missed more than words can say, our hearts are broken, we are truly devastated, but we will always remember the good times we shared, her happy outlook on life, her bubbly personality and her big smile.”
