Kendal Town Council has voted in favour of a £3 rise in the local element of the annual Band-D council tax for the town's residents - to help the recovery effort after last month's floods.
At the latest Kendal Town Council meeting this week, members discussed the Budget for the coming financial year.
From the £3 increase, £2 will be allocated to a dedicated Flood Recovery Fund to support the town's recovery through priority schemes.
The remaining £1 will go towards funding projects in the Kendal Action Plan.
The Mayor of Kendal, Councillor Chris Hogg commented “We are rightly proud of our beautiful town. However, we have all seen the damage that has been done in the last month as a result of the terrible flooding. If we are to get Kendal back to its former state in the aftermath of this disaster, an increase in the precept is required.
"We believe residents will be prepared to pay around 4p per week to achieve this. The extra funding raised will enable us to help get Kendal back on its feet and promote the town to visitors”.
