A search is underway for volunteers to help with a project to collect fishing memories from across Morecambe Bay.
The Morecambe Bay Partnership is looking for veteran fishermen and women from Cumbria and Lancashire to help make records of local fishing traditions.
Susannah Bleakley of Morecambe Bay Partnership said: “Morecambe Bay has a unique and fascinating fishing heritage but, sadly, the stories of the communities involved in the industry are being lost with the passage of time. Volunteers are the key to collecting as much material as possible to preserve these precious stories for future generations by interviewing those with memories of fishing in the Bay.
"Full training is provided so if you have a little time to spare, love heritage and are interested in hearing eye-witness stories about life around the Bay then we’d love to hear from you.
"We value all your memories, however large or small, and would love to speak to you.”
The Partnership is running some informal drop in events later this month to tell people more about the project:
Morecambe session: Saturday 23rd January, 10am-12 noon, Kerry’s Coffee House, 238, Marine Rd Central.
Grange-over-Sands session: Saturday 30th January, 10am-12 noon, The 'S' Café (opposite the park), Yewbarrow Terrace.
Those interested in taking part either as volunteers or to share stories can contact project facilitator Jenn Mattinson at Jenn@morecambebay.org.uk or phone Morecambe Bay Partnership on 01524 734888.
