Lib Dem leader Tim Farron's attacked the Conservatives for not applying for flood recovery money for Cumbria from the EU.
The government's only got a certain amount of time to ask for millions of pounds to rebuild the county following Storm Desmond.
But Mr. Farron says the Tories are reluctant to apply to the EU's 'Solidarity Fund' as it would upset their Eurosceptic backbenchers.
The South Lakes MP estimates Cumbria could be missing out on up to £12.5million.
He's launched a petition calling on Number 10 to ask Europe for the cash.
Mr. Farron said: "It is shocking that the UK government has not applied for EU Solidarity Funding. The government’s desire to appease eurosceptic backbenchers is depriving Cumbrians of desperately-needed funds. We pay into this fund, so we should apply for it and get the benefits.
“Cumbria needs all the funding it can get to help with the costs of the clean-up operation and to rebuild local infrastructure, so it is utterly illogical that we are missing out on this EU funding. The government will be selling local people short if it doesn’t apply for this money.”
