Keswick Market is back up and running, despite the clean-up operation still being underway after the recent flooding.
The market, which runs every Thursday and Saturday and was voted ‘2015 Best Outdoor Market in the UK’, has been cancelled for two weeks - initially due to high winds, and then the local flooding.
At least 10 of the traders have been directly affected with either their home or businesses flooded.
To make up for lost time, a replacement market day has also been arranged, which will take place on Sunday 20th of December from 9.30am until 4pm in Market Square.
Market Manager Phil Byers is expecting that there will be 70-75 traders on the day.
He said: “As such a thriving market in the heart of Keswick, it was important that we got things moving as quickly as we could. Arranging a replacement market day before Christmas will provide our traders with much needed income for the festive period. More importantly though, it will help the town to get back on its feet.”
The market's owner, Groupe Geraud, has also announced that the profits from the 20 December will be donated to The Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund set up by the Cumbria Community Foundation.
